Ok I have to own up...I think I've made a mistake with my tyres, but I'm puzzled...
I'm using Toyo T1R's (which seem ok) in 205 45 15. The trouble is I can't match times I set using my old 205 65 15 Bridgestones. I had assumed that the better grip in the corners and off the line would make up for the reduction in gearing. So at Harewood and Curborough, where I spend quite a bit of time on the rev limiter in 2nd, I was a second or so slower than my previous best.
I have no previous experience of either sprints/hillclimbs or MGBs so had little to go on. And we're restricted to list 1A tyres I know its a competition but I'm pondering what to do so thought I would see if there is any wisdom out there to tap in to?

Well I'm no expert on B's but 45s seem to be very low profile for an old car. I know the RV8 has more modern suspension than the original B but generally older cars don't like ultra low profile tyres. I've heard that the Toyos are a good choice but again I'm no expert on 1b tyres.
On the subject of gearing it's always difficult to get it right and it probably never will be! I lowered the gearing on my car and it is now great pulling out of tight bends but there are a few places now where 2nd is too low and 3rd is too high!!

Hmmm..I thought it might be something like that. I guess a live axle and cart springs don't provide the best camber control for low, stiff sidewall tyres. I'm stuck with the gearing really as there was only one gearbox/axle combo on the RV8. Oh well back to the drawing board I suppose...its a shame there isn't more opportunity to practice and experiment. Must try harder!

At least with the RV8 you should be able to quickly shred your tyres ready to try another set! Could get expensive though!!

Personally not a great fan of Toyos - the T1R is overrated IMO. The best 1A tyre I every used was the Bridgestone S-02, but they're long gone.
Sorry, can't recommend a better tyre as I am more familiar with the F and not sure what would work best with the RV8 suspension?

Yes I liked the SO2s when I had them on my 944, replaced them with Pirelli P zeros but they weren't as good... Then I had Toyo R888s which I really liked but they're not 1A so thought I'd try the T1Rs. I guess the RV8 is more like an MGC (15" wheels) and people seem to think they work better with 55 or 60 profile tyres so I'll have to see how I get on at Shelsley. I would really like a chance to do some testing so might try & fit in a track day.

Going to sprint school...see if I can improve the driver!...more to go at I expect... BTW if you think T1R's are overrated what current List 1A tyres do you think are better & why?
